Smoke billows over Aldi as car ablaze in Heywood

Shocking images show smoke pouring into the sky after a car caught fire in Heywood late on Thursday afternoon.

A fire engine was dispatched to the scene, according to a statement from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS). Greater Manchester police are also understood to have been in attendance.

Fortunately, a fire crew dispatched from Rochdale Community Fire station was able to quickly extinguish the fire on Bradshaw Street.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) told the Manchester Evening News: “Shortly after 5.15pm this evening (Thursday 12 December), one fire engine from Rochdale Community Fire Station was called to attend a car fire on Bradshaw Street, Heywood.

“Our crew arrived quickly and used one hose reel and one breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Firefighters worked alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing after approximately half an hour at the scene.”
