The blaze broke out at a commercial unit on Longden Road on the border of Gorton and Levenshulme this morning. The fire is continuing to rip through the building, with a huge emergency response on the scene.
Dramatic images show huge plumes of smoke billowing from the fire and into the air over the city. The smoke has been spotted from miles around, with pictures taken from as far as Oldham and Tameside.

A large fire service response is continuing to work on the scene, with a number of residential streets taped off. Some residents who live near Longden Road have been reportedly been evacuated from their homes.
Police officers are also on the scene. A drone has been sent up over the scene of the blaze as crews use huge hoses to fire water onto the building.

People should avoid the area, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement. Residents should also keep their windows and doors closed.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters are in attendance at a fire involving a commercial unit on Longden Road, Gorton, which is producing a large amount of smoke.

"Nearby residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed and to avoid the area. Road closures are in place."
