'Drug-driving' woman arrested for 'neglect' after fleeing scene of crash with child

A woman has been arrested after she fled the scene of a crash in Oldham with a child.

The smash happened on Lane Head Road at around 5.30am this morning (Sunday, October 13), police said. The car overturned in the crash.

A woman, a man and a child were inside at the time, but all left the scene. Police later found the trio, with no-one seriously injured in the incident.

A 24-year-old woman was then arrested on suspicion of child neglect and driving under the influence of drugs, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said. An investigation into the crash is now underway.

A reconstruction of the incident was carried out on the road, which has since been reopened. This was separate to a reconstruction carried out on nearby Huddersfield Road - the A62 - in Oldham this morning, which was for a fatal crash that happened in March.

Any witnesses of the crash on Lane Head Road have been urged to contact GMP. In a statement, a force spokesperson said: "A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and driving under the influence of drugs, after a car overturned on Lane Head Road, Oldham, shortly after 5.30am this morning (Sunday 13 October 2024).

"It was reported that after the car overturned, which contained a man, woman and child, the occupants left the scene. They have since been located and we’ve confirmed that no serious injuries were sustained.

"Investigators have been in the area conducting enquiries and reconstructing events, with road closures in place to do so. These road closures have since been lifted.

"Anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage which may have captured the incident, is encouraged to come forward to us on 101, quoting log 603 of 13/10/24."
