CCTV appeal after Morrisons security guard attacked as he tried to stop pair of shoplifters

Police have issued an appeal after a security guard at a Morrisons in Tameside was attacked as he tried to stop a pair of shoplifters.

An investigation was launched by officers after the incident at the supermarket on Saxon Street in Denton at around 6.30pm on June 11 this year. Police said the security guard was assaulted as he tried to stop a pair of shoplifters from leaving the store with stolen items.

He suffered serious injuries in the incident. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Police today (September 30) issued an appeal for anyone with information about the attack to come forward. The force also shared a CCTV picture of two males they want to speak to who 'may be able to assist with enquiries'.

A post on the GMP Tameside Facebook page said: "#APPEAL | Officers are investigating an assault at a Morrisons supermarket on Saxon Street in #Denton at around 6:30pm on 11 June 2024.

"A security guard was found with serious injuries. It is believed that the security guard was attacked because he had stopped a pair of shoplifters from leaving the store with stolen goods.

"No arrests have been made as of yet and we are following up a number of lines of enquiry. The force later added: "We are now in a position to ask for the public’s help to identify the two males in the CCTV images as they may be able to assist us with our enquiries."
