Armed police swarm area with five arrested after 'robbery'

Five people were arrested after armed police swooped on an estate in Bolton. A large number of officers with guns were seen on and around Moorside Avenue in Farnworth this afternoon.

Locals said they blocked the road, including the entrance to Parkfield Avenue. The police helicopter was heard also seen and heard flying overhead at the same time.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the officers made five arrests in connection with an earlier alleged robbery.

A force spokesperson said: "At around 3.15pm today, officers responded to reports of a group of males on bikes in the Moorside Avenue area of Bolton, following earlier reports of a robbery.

"Officers attended the scene and quickly detained five males on suspicion of robbery."
