Man stabbed in Manchester city centre as police tape off area near Albert's Schloss

A man has been seriously hurt after being stabbed in Manchester city centre.

Officers were called to Peter Street at 4pm after a 31-year-old man had been knifed. Police taped off an area outside Albert's Schloss following the incident this afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police said that a 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. The man's condition is being described as serious, but not life-threatening. According to a spokesperson for the bar, the incident 'ended up on its doorstep' after initially taking place elsewhere, close to Peter Street.

They said the incident was unrelated to the venue, and their head of security at Albert Schloss then provided medical assistance until emergency services arrived. Pictures from the scene show the pavement area near the entrance to popular venue taped off, with police officers working at the scene. An eyewitness reported seeing blood on the pavement.

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 4pm on Sunday 17 November, we were called to reports that a man had been stabbed on Peter Street in Manchester city centre. After emergency services attended, it was established that the victim, a 31-year-old man, suffered stab wounds which are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

"A 26-year-old man has been arrested by officers on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in custody for questioning and although we have made an arrest, detectives remain at the scene and continue investigating all possible lines of enquiry to find out what happened this evening."

Inspector Hussain, from GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: "We know that incidents of this nature that occur in our community are concerning for residents, but we continue to follow numerous lines of enquiry and local neighbourhood officers will be present in and around the area to provide reassurance and investigate.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public. We have officers out and about in your community patrolling hotspot areas and anyone with concerns is advised to speak to them.

“We are continuing to follow up numerous line of enquiry including CCTV, if you witnessed this incident or have relevant footage to share, please get in touch and speak to us. Please don’t assume that what you know is already known to us.”

A spokesperson for Albert's Schloss said: "Earlier today an incident took place on Peter Street which ended up on our doorstep. Thankfully our head of security was on hand to immediately provide medical intervention until the emergency services arrived."
