More detailed plans have been submitted for a development of 76 homes on the former World of Pets site in Timperley. Outline plans for a Miller Homes scheme for 116 properties on the site was allowed on appeal in February 2023. Now, Hope Architects acting for Miller, have submitted an access road plan for 76 of those houses, which will be via Thorley Lane.

The site was removed from the Green Belt under Greater Manchester’s Places for Everyone plan, which was adopted in March this year. The Miller homes will range in size from one-bedroom maisonettes to five-bedroom detached houses. Some 45 per cent of the properties will be made available for either affordable rent or shared ownership.

The homes will be ‘tenure blind’ which means they would be ‘pepper-potted throughout the site to ensure they are well integrated with the rest of the scheme. A design and access statement says that where possible existing trees will be retained and ‘settings enhanced’ - notably in the ‘Willow Green’ landscape area at the centre of the site.

“Streets have been designed for the use of residents, not for the use of cars,” it says. “The layout of the scheme promotes non-vehicle travel.

“Streets are designed to be human-scale, safe, walkable, not parking-dominated and enjoyable for all users.”
