A 35-year-old man from Wigan is being questioned by police on suspicion of violent disorder in connection with the Southport riots.

He is the 150th person to be arrested by Merseyside police in connection with the far right-linked disorder that broke out in the region during the summer following the murders of three young girls in Southport.

Violence flared in the Lancashire town and police came under attack after the deaths of Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine. The girls were all fatally stabbed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29.
