As Donald Trump looks set to become the next president of the United States his opponents are worried another Trump Presidency might bring extreme policies and even - in the words of one of the architects of Project 2025, “a second American Revolution”.

Project 2025 is a roadmap for what Donald Trump should do if he wins power. It was written in 2022 by conservative-leaning think tank called the Heritage Foundation along with 140 former Trump staffers and allies.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) have called Project 2025 “a roadmap for how to replace the rule of law with right-wing ideals” and slammed “ its perilous implications for our civil rights and liberties”.

One of the key things the ambitious 922-page plan proposes is a significant increase in presidential authority and proposes the dismissal of up to 50,000 civil servants to be replaced by those loyal to Trump.

As well as restructuring the executive branch of the government, other Project 2025 plans in the document include a series of right-wing policy recommendations on a wide range of issues from immigration and abortion rights, to free speech and racial justice.

Critics have expressed concern at the plans, which include mass deportation of migrants, limits of abortion access, and cutting funding to schools which teach subjects the administration disapproves of.

Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Ben Wikler slammed Project 2025 as “dangerous” at a press conference in July, noting that Trump and Vance have both said the “Project 2025” plan is “full of good ideas,” but he said those same ideas “aren't just bad, they're dangerous,” the Independent reports.

“They’re dangerous for our country,” he added.

“Donald Trump and JD Vance want to ransack the public treasury to hand out massive tax cuts to billionaires and stick working Americans with the bill. We know that they want to strip Americans of their basic freedoms, like access to reproductive health care, even threatening access to forms of contraception.

“We know that they not only want to leave working families behind, they want to kick them off the ladder of opportunity and pull up the ladder behind them. We know this not just because of what they they and their allies and their staff have laid out in plain ink in their Project 2025 plans,” he said.”

Trump was forced to publicly distance himself from Project 2025 this summer after the leader of the Heritage Foundation, which drafted the document, hinted at a “second American Revolution”.

Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation, made a bold statement on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast. Roberts said: "We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be".

Taking to his social media platform, Trump declared: "I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they're saying and some of the things they're saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them."

Ammar Moussa, a representative from Biden's camp previously said in July: "Project 2025 is the extreme policy and personnel playbook for Trump's second term that should scare the hell out of the American people."
