by Christopher Bucktin · The MirrorInfamous US murderer Lyle Menendez has allegedly begun a romantic relationship with a British student 35 years his junior, it has been claimed.
The 56-year-old, who, along with his twin, brutally killed their wealthy parents in 1989, is now in an alleged relationship with 21-year-old Milly Bucksey. Sources claim that Menendez has developed strong feelings for the Manchester girl and has even suggested he may pursue a divorce from his wife, Rebecca Sneed. He married his spouse in 2003, just one month before Milly was born.
The relationship allegedly began earlier this year when Menendez noticed Milly on a Facebook group about his case. Initially, he approached her using an alias, only later revealing his true identity as their interaction grew. Reportedly, the killer was so eager to stay in touch with her that he obtained an illegal mobile phone within his high-security prison in San Diego, California.
In March, prison officials confiscated the device, detailing the incident in a record that was included in a recent resentencing memo from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. Despite the setback, Menendez allegedly acquired a second contraband phone, which allowed him to continue communicating with Milly. She has since travelled the 5,323 miles from her home in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, to visit the murderer in person.
Photographs show the pair embracing inside the prison, with Milly sitting on Menendez's knee in one image. The photo's time stamp suggests the visit occurred on September 14, just days before Milly's university term began. In what appears to be a nod to her connection with the killer, she recently updated her Facebook cover photo to a scene from Ocean Beach in San Diego. It is located just 20 miles from Imperial Beach, where Sneed moved in 2020 to be closer to him.
When asked for comment, Milly's family declined to discuss the relationship, while Menendez remained silent. It isn't Menendez's first romantic complication while incarcerated. His first marriage to Anna Eriksson ended in 2001 after she discovered he had been writing love letters to another woman. In 2003, he married Sneed in what has been described as a committed relationship despite his imprisonment.
Menendez and his brother, Erik, have been in prison since 1990, convicted for the murders of their parents, Kitty and José Menendez the year before. The twins admitted to the killings, claiming years of alleged abuse at the hands of their father had driven them to act.
Prosecutors argued, however, that the murders were financially motivated, citing a $555,000 (£440,500) spending spree shortly after the crime. Both were sentenced to life without parole and initially held in separate prisons, only to be reunited in the San Diego facility in 2018.
Interest in the Menendez case has been reignited recently following the release of a popular true-crime drama series that revisits the brothers' lives and the circumstances surrounding the murders. In October, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that he is considering a potential sentence reduction for the brothers, remarking that they "have paid their debt to society."
