Stranger rips baby from mum's arms and runs down train carriage in 'attempted abduction'

Police have issued an urgent CCTV appeal after man grabbed a baby from a mum's arms as she was about to leave a train in Worksop.

Officers say they want to speak to a man pictured in a red shirt following an incident on a train at 7.30pm on Saturday 17 August, where a stranger grabbed the infant and ran down the carriage. A relative then ran after the man and grabbed the baby back.

A statement from the British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police are today issuing an image following an attempted child abduction on a train. The incident happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday 17 August when a mother carrying her baby was preparing to leave the service at Worksop.

"A stranger grabbed the baby from the mother’s arms and took off down the carriage with her. A relative managed to grab the baby back. The man left the service at Barnsley.

"Officers believe the man in the image may have information that could help their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference number 228 of 18 August."
