A woman had a lucky escape after a 46-tonne industrial lorry ploughed through her home in a freak accident.

Adele Dimishky, 50, was out working when the machine smashed into the wall of the terraced house in an East Yorkshire village. The HGV was carrying a jaw crusher, which is normally used in demolition work or quarrying.

Nobody was hurt in the crash which happened at about 9.50am in Main Street, Preston, on Wednesday, Humberside Police said. It caused hours of road chaos during which motorists were advised to avoid the area cordoned off by cops who are now investigating the crash. Hull Council confirmed the incident was a result of an HGV "contravening the weight limit" and said it was a police matter that will be fully investigated.

Fighting back the tears, Adele Dimishky said "I have lived here 27 years and it is the third time I have been hit. I am worried the insurance company will not pay out this time. I have had to take two days off work sorting it all out with the insurers and no one is paying my wages. I had just had a new kitchen put in. Now everything is covered in soot and dirt and my house is a wreck.

"What was he thinking? I drive eight wheelers myself but would never dream of bringing a lorry down here.
"He must have seen the weight restriction sign at the top of the street. It is lucky it happened on Wednesday morning while I was at work. The house was boarded up by the lorry driver's insurers."

Landlady of the Cock and Bell Pub opposite Cheryl Dobson said: "A Lorry came through the village which should not have come through the village. It was seven and a half tonnes. He did not get around the corner. He like had this huge Conveyor crane on the back of the waggon. It hit Adele's house and went through her house.

"So then he got stuck and reversed back and left a big hole in her house. Luckily, she was at work. If she had been sat there it would have killed her. It was her bedroom window. It smashed all her windows. We have a lot of issues about lorries. They are always going the village when they should not do and getting stuck.

"About three months ago my pub was hit. I had to have it all repainted. It smashed my sign, smashed all my lights, which still are not up. So I am pub without a sign at the moment. It is the third time I remember a lorry has hit the pub - and Adele has had her house hit before as well. There is lots of campaigns in the village for a bypass but they will not give us one."

Parish councillor Michelle Wing said there was "always something happening with the HGV's coming through Preston".
"It's too little, it's too small," she said. "The roads aren't built for articulated lorries. You know it could have been schoolchildren passing, bricks falling. There could have been a death here."

Hull Council said: "The council has worked closely with Preston Parish Council and the Preston Traffic Group to discuss their concerns around traffic levels, and have put in place a number of measures to help manage traffic flow through the village."

The council added that a bypass option had been explored but would require external grant funding and the proposal does not meet the criteria for government funding at this time.

Humberside Police said: "Officers were called to reports of a collision on Main Street in Preston, East Riding of Yorkshire at around 9.50am this morning, Wednesday 27 November. It is reported that a lorry collided with the wall of a property, causing damage. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the collision."
