'I own world's most soft toys – they take over my whole house but I love it'
A woman is so obsessed with Squishmallows that she filled her home with over 1,500 of them - and has no plans to stop growing her grand collection which fills every room of her house
by Lucy Marshall · The MirrorA woman has been awarded a Guinness World Record after squeezing 1,523 soft toys into her home.
Mum-of-one Sabrina Dausman owns the most Squishmallows in the world - and has no plans on stopping her collection anytime soon. The soft toys, which became a viral sensation following their launch by Kelly Toys Holdings LLC in 2017, became extremely popular thanks to their squishy, marshmallow-like feel.
Sabrina, from Illinois, US, has so many of the cuddly toys that she is able to sleep on top of them. Her collection takes over every room in her house and they're organised into different sections - from colours to a "fun collection" and a giant Halloween display.
"I think the only time I would stop collecting Squishmallows is if they stopped producing Squishmallow," she told Guinness World Records.
She added: "[On several occasions], I have driven two hours away to get the newest Squishmallows. I also have waited for two hours in the cold for a store to open so I could make sure I get the Alexie the Cow Squishmallows I was looking for!"
Sabrina's collection began in January 2018, when she spotted Fern the Valentine Fox on the shelves of her local Walmart. It isn't the first time she loved collecting toys; when she was younger she owned Bratz dolls, Barbie dolls, and Build-A-Bears.
She said having collections makes her feel "whole". Her dog Squishmalllows collection reminds her of her childhood dog, while others are based on characters from her favourite film franchises, and some of her toys are named 'Sabrina' which made her want all the toys with her name. "They just look so amazing together," she added.
Sabrina also collects Disney Loungefly backpacks which are themed around recognisable characters from pop culture, but her Squishmallows are her most prized possessions because of their comforting nature. She also hopes that one day, she will be able to design her own custom Squishmallow.
Speaking about what her family and friends think of her collection, Sabrina told commented: "They think it's awesome but at the same time they're like, 'Sabrina, you have way too many Squishmallows'. I agree with them, of course, but whenever there’s a new cow Squishmallows, I’m like, 'I NEED IT'."
Sabrina said her husband also supports her passion. She admits dealing with anxiety issues and when she is out shopping, and sees Squishmallows in stores she gets "so excited that anxiety just goes away".
The toy lover is the first to hold a Guinness World Record for having the most Squishmallows and is unlikely to lose it anytime soon due to her unwavering commitment. Speaking about accepted the award, Sabrina said: "I'm just still in awe that I’ve been able to [achieve] this and be a part of this amazing book with all these other amazing record holders."
