Man charged with 2007 murder of Noel Campion in Limerick

A 41-year old man has been before a special district court sitting in Limerick, charged with the 2007 murder of Noel Campion in the city.

Darragh Quinlivan, who is originally from the south side of Limerick city but has been living in the UK for several years, was brought before a special sitting of Limerick district court charged with Noel Campion's murder.

Mr Campion was a passenger on a high-powered motorcycle travelling in the Thomondgate area of Limerick city on 26 April, 2007.

That morning, a person emerged from a phonebox and fired a number of shots, killing the 34-year old father of three.

His killing is believed to have been related to a criminal feud which was on-going in Limerick at the time.

Mr Quinlavin is the first person to be charged in connection with the 17-year garda investigation.

Detective Sergeant Eoin McDonagh gave evidence of arresting Mr Quinlivan at 7.15pm yesterday evening and charging him with the murder.

He said he made no reply when the charge was put to him.

Garda Inspector Fergal Hanrahan applied to have Mr Quinlivan remanded in custody.

Judge Patricia Harney granted Mr Quinlivan free legal aid and assigned solicitor Sarah Ryan to the case.

Mr Quinlivan will be before the court again via video link next Tuesday.
