No injuries after canteen fire at IPAS centre in Wicklow
· RTE.ieNo injuries have been reported following a fire at a centre housing International Protection applicants in Co Wicklow.
The Defence Forces said in a statement that the fire broke out in the canteen of the Emergency Accommodation and Reception Centre in Kilbride Military Camp.
It is understood that 89 people were resident at the facility at the time of the fire.
They have since been moved to another location.
Gardaí, the fire brigade and military police responded to the fire, the Defence Forces said.
"The fire is now out, and all International Protection applicants and Defence Forces personnel are safe and accounted for. A damage assessment and investigation is currently ongoing," the Defence Forces statement added.
Gardaí from Wicklow said they were alerted by the fire service to a fire at a building complex in Kilbride, Co Wicklow at around 7.30pm.
They said that a technical examination will be carried out, the results of which will guide the garda investigation.
