Opinion poll suggests Michael Healy-Rae to top Kerry poll

by · RTE.ie

The results of a TG4/Ipsos B&A constituency poll for the five-seater Kerry constituency suggest Michael Healy-Rae will top the poll, receiving a whopping 27% of the first preference vote putting him far ahead of any other candidate.

His brother Danny Healy-Rae comes in at 10% but should easily be elected based on Michael's surplus.

Fianna Fáil's Norma Foley is on 14%, and with transfers from the other Fianna Fáil candidates, Michael Cahill (7%) and Linda Gordon Kelleher (3%) will likely retain her seat in Kerry.

The combined Fianna Fáil vote in this poll is ahead of its 2020 tally.

Newcomer Billy O'Shea is the Fine Gael candidate here, replacing retiring TD Brendan Griffin.

Mr O'Shea is polling well on 14%, although the Fine Gael vote appears to be down marginally in Kerry.

Sinn Féin’s Pa Daly is on 12% and running mate Stephanie O’Shea is on 3% giving Sinn Féin a combined 15% in Kerry and not quite a quota.

Similar to Fine Gael, the poll suggests the party vote will be slightly lower this time but it is still holding its own in Kerry.

The Labour Party which held a seat in Kerry for decades is performing poorly at 2% of the poll.

This TG4/Ipsos B&A poll was conducted on Friday 22 November and Saturday 23 November, one week before election day.

A sample of 521 attaches a margin of error of about plus or minus four percentage points.
