Woman seriously injured in Limerick crash involving bus

A woman has been airlifted to Cork University Hospital after being seriously injured in a collision involving a car and a bus in Co Limerick this afternoon.

The incident took place shortly before 3pm on a section of the R513 near Ballylanders.

It is understood the female driver of the car has been airlifted to Cork University Hospital.

There were 23 young people on the bus. Gardaí say all were medically assessed at the scene and none required hospital treatment.

Emergency personnel - including a number of ambulances, gardaí, fire personnel from nearby Kilmallock, and from north Cork, and a helicopter - responded to the incident, given concerns there could have been several casualties and were involved at the scene assessing those who may have been injured and assisting in airlifting the woman who was seriously injured to Cork.

The scene of the incident, located in a rural area of south-east Co LImerick, just beyond Garryspillane.

The location of the crash has been closed since 3pm as garda forensic collision investigators carry out an examination.

It is likely to remain closed for several hours.
