A man has been jailed for a violent robbery in the Splott area of Cardiff after a person was attacked as they were walking home from a night out. South Wales Police said 30-year-old Joseph Tanetta was one of the two men that attacked a 27-year-old man who was walking home at around 4am on May 8, 2022.

According to the police force, the victim suffered a broken jaw, which required a metal plate, and a puncture wound to his thigh. They added that Tanetta was identified as a suspect from DNA found inside the victim's pocket. For the latest Cardiff news, sign up to our newsletter here.

Detective Sergeant George Buckley, from South Wales Police said the incident involved an "appalling level of violence". DS Buckley said: "The victim was walking home alone at around 4am on May 8, 2022, when he happened to walk pass Tanetta and an unknown man in Sanquhar Street.

"Evidence revealed how they approached the victim from behind, punched and kicked him to the body and head repeatedly, stabbed his leg, and robbed him of his phone, wallet, and keys. This was an appalling level of violence, and the CCTV footage is horrific. It is no wonder that the victim continued to have regular flashbacks."

South Wales Police has said that the second suspect remains unknown. DS Buckley added: "I would like to commend the victim for his bravery throughout this traumatic experience.

"We hope this sentence gives him some comfort and allows him to rebuild his confidence. Tanetta is a dangerous offender, and the lengthy sentence handed down by the judge reflects this."
