Brilliant images unseen for years capture one dinnertime at a now lost Liverpool school 35 years ago. A huge part of our primary school experience, many of us still have fond memories of the hot school meals and sweet treats we had during lunchtime as youngsters.

And if you went to Roscommon Street Primary School in Everton, you may remember it as seen here in these amazing photographs from 1989. Courtesy of our archives, Mirrorpix, these images have been tucked away for years and were taken on September 6 that year as part of a Liverpool ECHO feature on school meals, which appeared in print the following day.

The feature saw ECHO reporter Janet Tansley visit the Everton school to discover how school meals had improved since her school days. At the time, the cook at Roscommon Street Primary School, Joan Carolan, said: "School meals have gone up market. There's non of the stodge you used to get, now they are good but heathy. We still serve chips occasionally - but not every day."

Among the children interviewed were four-year-old Billy Taubman. Tucking into his steak and kidney pie, he said: "I'm really enjoying this, and it is my favourite afters today, rice pudding."

These images show staff and pupils at the now lost school decades ago. See who you remember in our gallery below.
