Kundapur: Traditional Boat Fishermen's Association submits petition to minister on bull trawl ban

Kundapur, Sep 26: A delegation from the Karnataka Traditional Boat Fishermen’s Association met state fisheries minister Mankala Vaidya at his office in Bengaluru to discuss the issue of banning bull trawl fishing and submitted a petition on the matter.

Minister Mankala Vaidya assured the delegation that he would instruct officials to strictly enforce the government’s previous order banning bull trawl fishing. He also stated that the diesel subsidy for boats involved in bull trawl fishing would be cancelled.

Before meeting the minister, key members of the Karnataka Traditional Boat Fishermen’s Association held discussions with senior officials of the fisheries department regarding various issues, including bull trawl fishing and the concerns of traditional boat fishermen.

Nagesh Kharvi, Madan Kumar, Yashwanth Gangolli, Suresh Kharvi Maravante, Vasudev Kharvi Maravante, Naveenchandra Uppunda, Venkataramana Kharvi Uppunda, Chandra Kharvi Koderi, Mahesh Kharvi, and other key members of the association were present.
