Trucks should be banned from this Kildare town
'Vehicles go through town instead of using bypass'
by Paul O'Meara · Leinster LeaderTrucks should be banned from a County Kildare town - with the exception of those making deliveries.
Independent councillor Bill Clear asked Kildare County Council to indicate when a recently proposed truck ban will start in Sallins.
He said residents are complaining that trucks continue to travel through the town “at speed instead of using the bypass.”
He added that people want to know why this is continuing and he said Google Maps technology should be updated so that drivers are directed away from the town centre.
According to KCC official Mark McLoughlin, a number of measures need to be taken before a ban comes into force. He said an alternative route will mean that Millennium ring road will have to be taken in charge and this is expected to be done in early 2025.
He also said the reclassification of the regional road through Sallins would require the consent of a government minister.
He also said a significant number of signs would be required and funding is needed for this. He said this could be done next year if money is available.
