The fencing at the Hill of Allen is 'ugly and aggressive', according to one Kildare county councillor.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian O'Loughlin made the comments as part of a motion he submitted to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting.

The meeting was held on Wednesday, September 18 last.

Cllr O’Loughlin’s motion read as follows: "That the council investigates the new fencing erected by Roadstone at the pedestrian entrance along the path and around the tower on the Hill of Allen.

"It is ugly and aggressive, more fitting for the Prison Service than a place of natural beauty and an important heritage site."

KCC told Cllr O’Loughlin in response via its report at the meeting: "The process for reporting potential Unauthorised Development (UD) is through the completion of a UD Complaint Form.

"On receipt of a completed UD Complaint Form, a new UD file is opened and referred to the Senior Executive Planner (SEP).

"The SEP assess the contents of the complaint, and the file is then referred to the Case Officer for further investigation."

KCC also said: "Each UD case is unique with a different set of circumstances, all of which are considered at referral stage.

"In order to protect the integrity of the council's investigate procedures and to prevent the possible prejudice of the case, UD cases will not be discussed in the public domain."

Roadstone was asked by the Leinster Leader for comment on Cllr O'Loughlin's criticism.

In response, a spokesperson for Roadstone said that the organisation 'acknowledges the query and declines to comment.'
