Permission granted for extension of DART rail system to Kildare
Construction to start in 2026
by Paul O'Meara · Leinster LeaderThe extension of the DART transport system to County Kildare has moved a step closer.
An Bord Pleanala has granted permission for the extension of the electrified DART network from Hazelhatch and Celbridge to Heuston station.
According to Labour Party councillor Angela Feeney, this means commuters using Celbridge will have better services and new trains.
She also said passenger capacity will increase “from the current 5,000 to 20,000 per hour per direction.”
She added switching commuters to this new service will also have a positive impact on climate change given the sustainability of the DART service.
Cllr Feeney stated that the tender stage for the construction of the DART expansion to Celbridge will now commence and it is anticipated that construction will commence in 2026.
