Birmingham street attack on elderly man for his jewellery

Thomas Iverson, 35, has been charged with robbery after the incident on Villa Road in Handsworth

A man has been charged with robbery after a street attack in Birmingham. An 88-year-old man was assaulted and had the jewellery he was wearing stolen.

Police said the incident happened on Villa Road in Handsworth on September 23. A man was arrested in connection to the robbery yesterday, October 9.

Thomas Iverson, 35, has now been charged with robbery. He appeared at Birmingham Magistrates court today, October 10. He was remanded in to custody.

In a statement, police said: "We've charged a man following a street robbery on an elderly man in Birmingham. On 23 September an 88-year-old man was assaulted while walking along Villa Road and had jewellery he was wearing stolen.

"On 9 October a man was arrested in connection with the robbery. Thomas Iverson appeared before Birmingham Magistrates court today (10 Oct) charged with robbery. The 35-year-old was remanded in custody and will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 7 November."
