by · Birmingham Live

A good samaritan was injured after being “dragged along by a car”, police have said. Two individuals are accused of stealing items before “members of the public” reportedly intervened.

NottinghamshireLive reported police raced to the scene following the alleged incident, which unfolded at the Co-op in Kegworth near East Midlands Airport on Wednesday, October 23. Both suspects were later arrested and charged with multiple offences.

Police said do-gooders got involved as the pair allegedly tried to flee the store. They added one was then “dragged along by a car” before falling to the ground.

A statement by officers read: “A member of public was dragged along with the car before eventually falling to the ground causing injury. [Two] individuals were [arrested] within a short period of time and have since been charged.”

It is further alleged the vehicle involved was uninsured and had no MOT. In a statement, North West Leicestershire Police said the suspects would be remanded into custody as they were already wanted on previous warrants.

The first suspect has been charged with shop theft. The second suspect was charged with the same offence and faces additional charges of drink driving, driving without insurance, driving without MOT and dangerous driving.

The force did not release the names of the suspects. Defendants are usually identified upon charge but officers said their details could not be released “due to it being an open investigation”.
