Teen, 15, charged with robbery and weapon offences following arrest

A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with robbery and weapon offences after he was arrested in Hodge Hill last week. The boy, who can't be named for legal reasons, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court last Friday (Oct 11) for a first hearing.

The teen was charged with two counts of robbery, possessing cannabis and possessing a knife. The hearing follows an arrest by officers from the Hodge Hill neighbourhood team on Wednesday, October 9, on St Margaret's Road.

His case was adjourned until a further date. The charge was made as part of Operation Ruby, a West Midlands Police initiative to tackle robbery offences in the region.

A statement released today by West Midlands Police reads: "A 15-year-old has appeared in court after being charged with two counts of robbery, possessing a knife and possessing cannabis.

"The boy, who can’t be named, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court last Friday (Oct 11) for a first hearing. His case was adjourned until a future date. It follows an arrest by officers from the Hodge Hill neighbourhood team on October 9, on St Margaret’s Road.

"Reducing robbery offences is one of our force priorities and we are running Operation Ruby to tackle those committing crime, while working to spread crime prevention messaging across the region so people can take all reasonable steps possible to help keep themselves and their belongings safe."
