Castle Bromwich shops 'targeted in haul worth hundreds' as suspect detained

A man has been accused of stealing hundreds of pounds in items from stores in Solihull. The large value of goods was taken from shops in Castle Bromwich, West Midlands Police said.

The suspect, who has not been named, was arrested on Friday evening, September 27. He was quickly charged and due to appear in court on Saturday morning.

It’s not clear if the alleged haul was carried out in one go or over the course of several visits. The news was reported by officers responsible for the Smith's Wood, Kingshurst and Castle Bromwich Police areas.

They said: “This evening, officers arrested a male for 15 shop thefts in Castle Bromwich where hundreds of pounds worth of items were taken. He will be in court tomorrow morning.”

The force has issued guidance to businesses on how they can secure their shops from shoplifters. They posted six top tips on how people can protect goods.

They include meeting and greeting customers, using crime mapping and securing items with electronic tags. Shopkeepers are also warned to keep themselves safe by avoiding being on shift alone.
