West Midlands Police have urged the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Birmingham on September 18 to "do the right thing" as they released a picture of him to the public. The force issued the direct appeal on Thursday September 19 after confirming a motorcyclist involved in the A45 Coventry Road crash died on Wednesday night.

Emergency services flooded the A45 in Small Heath just after 5pm on Wednesday after being called to reports of a collision between a car and motorcyclist. Coventry Road was cordoned off from from Deakins Road to Holder Road and the male rider, in his 20s, was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Officers confirmed today that he died in hospital on Wednesday night and are now seeking the driver and passengers of a silver Honda Jazz who are understood to have "made off following the collision." West Midlands Police's serious collision investigation released a CCTV image as part of a fresh appeal, showing a man in grey clothing and black Nike trainers.

Releasing a statement alongside the CCTV images, a West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We want to speak to this man after a motorcyclist has tragically died following a hit-and-run collision in Birmingham.

"The rider, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car on the A45 Coventry Road at around 5.05pm yesterday (18 September). He sadly died later that evening and our thoughts, and support, will be with his loved ones at this devastating time.

"We've also released an image of this suspect and we're keen for anyone with information to speak to us." Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "A man has tragically died and we're doing all we can to establish the full circumstances and trace who was involved in the collision.

“I would appeal directly to the driver. Come and speak to us, now is the time to do the right thing. We need to get answers for the man's loved ones and I'd ask anyone who can help our investigation to come forward as soon as possible."
