Hunters Road murder probe latest as police probe tragedy

A second man was left fighting for his life after early-morning trouble in Lozells

Police are continuing to investigate trouble which left a man dead and another fighting for his life. The emergency services were called to Hunters Road in Lozells at 12.30am yesterday, Monday, September 31, where they found one man in a critical condition.

He was declared dead at the scene. The second man was given advanced trauma care and rushed to hospital where he remained in a serious condition.

A blue tent was erected at the roadside. Police had not made any arrests.

Coun Waseem Zaffar said: "I've been raising issues about this road with the police. People are reporting drug dealing out in the open.

"There's loud noise disturbances, rowing in the street, illegal parking. There's an oversaturation of vulnerable people being put in the area and it's all costing us dear."

West Midlands Police said on Monday: "We've started a murder investigation after a man found with serious injuries in a Lozells street has died. We were called to Hunters Road, near the junction of Villa Road, at just before 12.25am today.

"A man was discovered seriously injured and sadly nothing could be done to save him. A second man who was also found hurt and is currently in a serious condition in hospital.

"We're currently working to establish exactly what happened and who was involved. We're reviewing CCTV and carrying out house-to-house enquiries as we investigate.
