£300 cost-of-living payments entering bank accounts in the next 10 days

The deadline for UK households to claim a benefit scheme worth £300 is closing in ten days - amid concerns hundreds of thousands could miss out. State pensioners are encouraged to come forward and apply for Pension Credit from the Department for Work and Pensions. The deadline is Saturday, December 21.

It's believed around 880,000 pensioners who are eligible for Pension Credit are currently not claiming it and are missing out on hundreds of pounds worth of government financial aid. Pension Credit also unlocks the Winter Fuel Payment, which is worth an additional £200 to £300 depending on when you were born, and the Warm Home Discount worth £150.

Pension Credit is paid every four weeks and helps households with living costs. The Winter Fuel Payment is a one-off, annual payment that issued to help struggling pensioners with fuel bills. State pensioners born between September 23, 1944, and September 22, 1958, will get £200 while those born before September 23, 1944, will get £300.

Meanwhile the Warm House Discount is also a one-off payment, worth £150, which is issued to households as a form of discount on electricity bills. Applicants who are eligible will be sent letters by their energy supplier in January 2025 and your bill will receive the discount.

With the potential for pensioners households to claim at least £650 in government benefits from Pension Credit, they've been encouraged to make sure they don't miss the deadline.
