Part of Birmingham Christmas fun fair remains sealed off this afternoon, December 13, after a ride crashed on Thursday night, injuring multiple people. A total of 13 people were hurt, with two women needing hospital treatment, after the accident involving the 55-metre high Star Flyer attraction in Centenary Square last night, Thursday, December 12.

The fun fair is a separate attraction to the Frankfurt Christmas market, which remains open as normal. Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 7:30pm on Thursday after the Star Flyer crashed in the middle of a packed Christmas fun fair.

Two men, aged 55 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and obstructing officers, the force confirmed on Friday. The ride remains shut down while an investigation is carried out, and a police cordon is likely to remain in place for the rest of today.
