Man injured in hit-and-run after trying to rescue a dog on busy road as police hunt driver

A man was injured in a hit-and-run after trying to rescue a stray dog on a busy road. Police are hunting the driver following the shock incident in Stourbridge and launched a public appeal for information.

The 37-year-old was stuck by a red Mazda 3 on Lye Bypass, near to the junction of Jackson Street, at around 4.40pm on Thursday, November 14. He had been crossing the road after spotting a stray pug near to a bus stop.

The car was later found parked behind Wollescote Community Centre on Wassell Road. It was seized for forensic examination.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "No arrests have been made and we need people who saw what happened or have dashcam footage of the collision, to get in touch with us. The man is now recovering at home but it is unclear what happened to the dog following the incident. The driver has been urged to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
