Edgbaston murder probe latest as man released after fatal shooting on city street

A murder probe was said to be continuing 'at pace' today, Monday November 25, after a man was shot dead on a Birmingham street. The victim was gunned down and another man seriously injured in Edgbaston on Friday night.

Officers were called to Rotton Park Road, near the junction with City Road, just before 11pm on Friday November 22 to reports that two people had been shot. Emergency crews found a man in his 20s in a car, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man in his 30s was found injured at a bus stop and was taken to hospital where he remained. BirminghamLive understands the second male victim was continuing to fight for his life in hospital.

Police said on Sunday that a man, in his 30s, who was initially arrested, was released from the investigation. In a statement, the force said detectives were "working at pace to understand exactly what happened."

The site of the shooting was a busy junction and police were hoping members of the public may have dash-cam footage or saw something that could help. Flowers were pictured at the scene over the weekend and on Monday morning. West Midlands Police has set up a special online portal where people can upload footage directly.

A spokesperson said: "We are continuing our murder investigation after a man was shot dead and another was seriously injured in Birmingham on Friday night. We were called to Rotton Park Road, near the junction with City Road in Edgbaston, just before 11pm on Friday to reports that two people had been shot.

"One man in his 30s was found injured at a bus stop and was taken to hospital where he remains. The second man, in his 20s, was found in a car but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by officers.

"A man in his 30s was arrested but has now been released from the investigation."

Det Chief Insp Laura Harrison, from West Midlands Police Homicide team, said: "This was a tragic incident, and we’re working at pace to understand exactly what happened.

“The shooting took place near the busy junction with City Road and it may be that you have information which can help our investigation progress.
