by · Birmingham Live

A van suspected to have been used to repeatedly fly-tip waste on a busy Birmingham road has been seized. Council enforcement investigators and police confiscated the white van which was allegedly used to dump waste on the A45 Coventry Road.

The vehicle was due to be forensically examined. The city is suffering from a fly-tipping epidemic with large amounts of waste dumped on street corners, pavements, parks etc, blighting the environment.

Birmingham City Council said: "Our waste enforcement unit seized this vehicle for alleged repeat fly-tipping offences on the A45, our investigation is ongoing. Thanks to WMP Washwood Heath Neighbourhood Team @HallGreenWMP for their support."

If caught, fly-tipping can lead to a fine of up to £50,000 along with imprisonment. The council will investigate dumped rubbish and may serve a legal notice to landowners to clear rubbish that attracts or harbours vermin.

Households also have a legal duty to ensure anyone taking waste from their house is authorised by the Environment Agency.
