Police appeal to Stoke-on-Trent dog walkers after 'sexual assault' in city park

Detectives are keen to speak to dog walkers and anyone in the area at the time of the attack

A 33-year-old man has been arrested after a woman reported being sexually assaulted in a city field. The alleged assault happened between 3pm and 6pm behind Church Road in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, on Friday, September 6.

Detectives said the woman, aged in her 30s, was attacked in a field close to Longton Cricket Club, just off Trentham Road. The suspect was described by police as being white, of a slim build, and around 5ft 10in tall.

He was reported to have been wearing a bright green t-shirt, black shorts, a black cap, purple trainers and was walking with a BMX bike. Staffordshire Police today said a 33-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident.

However, the force still appealed for information as enquires were ongoing. Detectives were keen to speak to dogwalkers and anyone in the area at the time of the attack.

Especially if they have CCTV or dash-cam footage. A force spokesperson said: "We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have relevant information or footage.

"We understand that the suspect had been accompanied by a woman at some point in his journey. She is described as having brown hair, wearing leggings and a black puffer-style jacket.

"We're particularly keen to speak to any dog walkers who may have been out on the field at the time of the assault and urge anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us. A 33-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested in connection with the incident and released under investigation while our inquiries continue.
