Sadness as body pulled from freezing lake in Birmingham park

A body was discovered in a lake at a Birmingham park. All three emergency services were called to Calthorpe Park in Balsall Heath just after 12.40pm yesterday, Tuesday, November 19, following reports of a person in the water.

The body of a man, said to have been in his 40s, was recovered but nothing could be done to help him. He was declared dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police said: "We were called to a medical emergency in Constance Road, Birmingham. Officers attended and a man in his 40s was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been informed," the statement added.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a person in water at the junction of Edward Road and Constance Road, Balsall Heath. An ambulance, paramedics and a trauma team attended.

"Sadly it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save a man and he was confirmed deceased on scene." West Midlands Fire Service said it received a report just after 12.50pm on Tuesday and sent crews to help in the rescue operation.
