A Derby man has been convicted of the historical sexual abuse of two young girls. Noel Hendley denied all of the allegations against him, meaning the victims had to come to court and relive their ordeals giving evidence at his trial at Derby Crown Court.

But having heard it all, a jury of seven women and five men took six hours to find him guilty by a majority of 11 counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13 and two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. They acquitted him on one count of rape of a child.

The offences happened in Derby and Hendley, of Rushcliffe Avenue, Chaddesden, was remanded into custody until he is sentenced on Thursday, November 14. Judge Jonathan Bennett said: “You have been found guilty of most of these charges and the next thing I have to do is sentence you. I want to do that as soon as possible and you are looking at a very long time in prison so I am going to remand you into custody.”
