A man has been charged in connection with three broad daylight robberies during which three gold chains were snatched from people's necks in Derby city centre. The three incidents occurred in September across two different locations; one on Babington Lane and two on Stanhope Street, Normanton.

The robberies occurred with the first on Babington Lane on Friday, September 6, and two in Stanhope Street on Sunday, September 8, and Sunday, September 20.

The first incident involved a woman in her 30s who was walking along Babington Lane at around 1.40pm on September 6. Whilst the victim was waiting at some traffic lights, a man is alleged to have then approached her and snatched her gold necklace from her neck before running off.

The second incident reportedly occurred after 2pm on Sunday, September 8, when a second woman in her 30s was walking along Stanhope Street when she was approached from behind by a man who allegedly then cut her gold chain from her neck and ran off.

In both of these incidents members of the public in the area intervened and helped the women.

The second incident on Stanhope Street and the third in total occurred at around 12.20 pm on Friday, September 20, when a man in his 50s was sitting in his car in a car park, when a man allegedly approached him and spoke to him briefly before snatching his chain through the window.

Damanpreet Singh, 28, of no fixed address, has since been charged with robbery and possessing an offensive weapon following a Derbyshire police investigation. He appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on October 7 when the matter was adjourned and he was remanded in custody.
