Bikers fleeing police leads to crash and arrest in Matlock Bath

Derbyshire police have made one arrest after two motorcyclists failed to stop for officers in the Matlock Bath area, leading to one of those motorcyclists being involved in a collision and then a foot chase.

Officers claimed that they drove past three motorcyclists acting suspiciously and upon turning around their vehicle, only one of the bikers stopped for officers.

This led to the situation escalating with the other two bikes taking off at high speeds, however officers did not pursue due to the danger to the public, the riders and themselves.

A short time later, reports were made to Derbyshire police stating that one of the bikes that lost control after going through a red light and crashed into the side of a moving vehicle.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police made a post on Facebook, they said: "The driver fled, leaving their passenger injured on the floor alone until officers caught up to administer first aid.

"Officers that weren't taking care of the injured passenger pursued on foot and swiftly apprehended the driver and discovered a quantity of illegal drugs on their person. A second driver was later stopped with minor licensing issues."

Subsequently a 19-year-old man was arrested at 9.20pm on Saturday November 2, on suspicion of dangerous driving, using a vehicle without insurance, driving driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, possession of a class B drug and failing to stop and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

Derbyshire police have stated that the man who was arrested has been released on police bail as investigations continue.

The driver of the car that was involved in the collision was a 40-year-old woman who was reported for having no licence or insurance at the time of the collision.
