Derby rapist carried out 'degrading and humiliating' sex attack on victim
by Martin Naylor · Derbyshire LiveA Derby rapist subjected a woman to a terrifying two-hour sex attack after which she felt “violated, humiliated and degraded”. Derby Crown Court heard how Wahid Hamid tried to rape his victim from behind.
At the time the 45-year-old was “absolutely out of his head” on cocaine and cannabis and had also been drinking alcohol. Now he has been jailed for eight years and three months. Bravely reading her own victim impact statement to the court, the woman said: “I feel like someone has died. I feel broken and I don’t think I will ever be happy again.
“I was given four weeks off work but it is going to take years and not weeks to get over the psychological damage you have caused. You violated me, you have humiliated and degraded me.
“The hair that you ripped from my head will grow back, but that’s not the problem. It is what you have done to my mind. I feel worthless and stupid.
“Women are not there to be abused, we are people and we deserve respect.”
Siward James-Moore, prosecuting, said the sex attack happened at a property in Derby on July 20, this year. He said the defendant had been drinking, taking cocaine and smoking cannabis when he carried out the rape.
The prosecutor said: “In her words ‘it all went boom’ and there was an explosion of violence with the defendant striking her across the face. He grabbed her ponytail so hard some hair came off.
"She was so frightened she wet herself.
“She tried to fight back but the defendant hit her so she felt, as she said ‘like in a cartoon seeing stars’. He then told her he was going to kill her.
“Although I have outlined the offence in short form, the whole sequence of events lasted around two hours.” Hamid, of HMP Leicester, pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape, assault by pentration and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He has previous convictions including drugs and violence. Judge Shaun Smith KC said what the defendant did was "particularly horrendous".
He said: “On this day, in the words of your victim, it ‘all went boom’ and the reason it all went boom is because you were absolutely out of your head on cocaine
“You hit her across the face calling her ‘a w****,’ she was crying and telling you to get off but you didn’t. What followed was a series of acts which completely humiliated her.
“You carried out a degrading act and then still didn't stop when she was telling you you were hurting her. She was screaming for help in fear of her life.
“It all lasted for over two hours and only ended when she, naked, made a desperate run for it.” Nicola Hunter, defending, said: "There's very little I can do to try and mitigate the offence, so perhaps the best piece of mitigation is his guilty plea at the crown court.
“He has been in custody since his arrest in July and he has found custody difficult.” As well as the jail term, the judge placed Hamid on the sex offender register for life.
