Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India and China have worked out an agreement ensuring that no clashes like the one that happened in Galwan in June 2020 will occur again.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold bilateral talks on Wednesday on the margins of the Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS) summit in Russia, in their first structured meeting since the eastern Ladakh border row erupted in May 2020.

PM Modi and Xi will meet on the sidelines of the summit meeting of BRICS, the foreign secretary said, which is taking place in the Russian city of Kazan. This will be the first meeting since 2020 when ties nosedived after their forces clashed on their disputed frontier.

Details of the agreement that are unofficially available show that Indian and Chinese troops can now patrol within their borders in Depsang Plains and Demchok.

The Congress asked the government to take the people of India into confidence on the matter and said that many questions remained about PM Modi government's announcement of the agreement. 

'The Modi government's approach to the entire crisis could be described as DDLJ: Deny, Distract, Lie and Justify,' Ramesh said.

This was the first structured interaction between the two leaders in five years and followed the two countries reaching an agreement on Monday on resuming regular patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
