Runners gathered in Northumberland on Saturday as the Kielder Marathon weekend kicked off.

Spectators from all over Europe gathered at Kielder Reservoir with over 1,000 athletes taking part in the Gravel Duathlon and 10K event. The events took place ahead of the Marathon and Half Marathon, as well as Junior races on Sunday.

The male 10k winner was Ian Harding, of Morpeth Harriers, with a time of 33:53. The female winner was Catriona Macdonald, also of Morpeth Harriers, with a time of 38:39.

Steve Cram, Director at Events of the North, said: "We were blessed with glorious weather today and that was reflected in the miles of smiles around the course and as runners crossed the finish line. It was brilliant to see so many spectators too and as ever, our amazing volunteers added to a very special atmosphere at Kielder. It's been a great start to the weekend and we're ready for an even busier day tomorrow."

Here are 16 pictures from the Kielder Marathon weekend so far.
