Myanmar National Team to resume training for 2024 ASEAN Cup on November 25
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdThe Myanmar national football team will resume training on November 25, following the 14th match of the MNL domestic league.
This comes after their friendly match against Lebanon on November 19, after which players returned to their respective clubs. The squad plans to select 30-40 players in the preliminary round, prioritizing those from local clubs. Players from foreign leagues can join only if their clubs release them.
Myanmar faces challenges with player availability due to the schedules of foreign leagues. While the Thai and Malaysian leagues will continue during the ASEAN Cup, the Cambodian league will pause, allowing players like Thiha Zaw and Soe Moe Kyaw to participate.
The team will have roughly two weeks of training before the ASEAN Cup kicks off on December 8. However, time with a full squad may be limited. During the November international week, Myanmar played matches without a complete roster, losing to Singapore (3-2) and Lebanon.
Since head coach U Myo Hlaing Win's appointment, the team has played matches against Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Lebanon, achieving one win and one draw against Sri Lanka in October but suffering losses to Singapore and Lebanon in November.
Myanmar is in Group B of the 2024 ASEAN Cup alongside Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Laos. They will open their campaign with a home match against Indonesia on December 9. With strong opponents, advancing to the next round will be challenging for the Myanmar team.
