India tops Junior Science Olympiad, clinches record six gold medals in global event
India's young students bagged a record-breaking number of medals at the 21st International Junior Science Olympiad. The team clinched six gold medals, securing the title of the best-performing nation.

Indian students have once again made the country proud on the global stage, clinching six gold medals at the 21st International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) held in Bucharest, Romania, from December 2 to 11, 2024. Competing against over 300 students from 52 countries, the Indian team emerged as the best-performing nation at the prestigious event.
The IJSO challenges participants in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology through rigorous theoretical and experimental tasks. Out of all the participants, the top 10% were awarded gold medals, 20% received silver, and 30% earned bronze.
India’s team, comprising six talented students selected by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), achieved the remarkable feat of securing gold medals on the board.
A felicitation ceremony was organised on December 13, 2024, at Vidyavardhaka Sangha in Rajajinagar to honour the students and their mentors.
The event was graced by Professor Anil Kumar, Dean of IISc, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Professor Ahluwalia, President of IAPT, Professor Dwarakanath, Chairman of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, and Professor Lakshminarasu, Vice Chairperson.
