ITV The Chase fans threaten to 'switch off' after player's 'shameful' act

by · NottinghamshireLive

Viewers of The Chase were left seething after witnessing two contestants opt for the lower offers during their face-off with Anne Hegerty. In the episode aired on Wednesday (November 13), Bradley Walsh introduced players Alex, Izzy, Hothan, and Iain, all eager to win a cash prize.

Alex, aged 31, had a strong start, correctly answering seven questions in the cash builder round. Opting for a cautious approach, he chose to stick with his initial £7,000 offer but was caught by Anne, also known as The Governess, after failing to answer a head-to-head question.

Izzy, who added £6,000 to the team's pot, was tempted by Anne's high offer of £56,000 but ultimately decided against it. "I don't want to go low and then have loads of chances," Izzy confided to Bradley, prompting Anne to comment, "She wants to go low but she's afraid of being shamed."

Eventually, Izzy went for the lower £2,000 offer, wanting to secure her place in the final chase, a move that infuriated viewers. Despite the backlash, Anne acknowledged Izzy's strategy, especially after seeing Alex get eliminated. Izzy managed to survive Anne's pursuit and progressed to the final chase, while Hothan followed with four correct answers in his cash builder round, reports the Express.

Despite Izzy hinting at regret for taking the low offer and Iain urging her to go high, Hothan said she was going to "play it safe" and went for the low offer of £1,000. Witnessing two contestants take the low offer was enough for viewers as they took to social media to reveal they were switching off.

"FFS- anymore weeks like this with low offer takers and it's goodbye from me!" wrote one fan as another declared: "Switched over to Pointless."

A third fumed: "Why do these people bother going on #TheChase if all they're going to take is the low offer? ? ? ? Not really worth the stress is it?" Another agreed: "What is the point in taking the low offer all the time? You're there to win big money."

Echoing this, someone else posted: "F**k me, this show really has gone downhill. Everybody seems to be going low nowadays. Really shows you the desperate state our country's in."

After Hothan made it back to the final chase, Iain decided to go big and took Anne's high offer of £87,000. However, his knowledge was no match for The Governess and he was knocked out before he could take the team's total to £90,000.

Izzy and Hothan answered just nine questions correctly in the final chase, after which Anne caught them with well over a minute remaining.
