Overpass span going up
by Wayne Moore · CastanetIt took just three days for construction crews to assemble the 47 metre Bertram Street overpass span.
Officials with Bird Construction say the materials were dropped off at the assembly point on the former Husky gas station property on Harvey Avenue.
Work will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday to place the span on pillars already erected on the site.
By Sunday morning, the span will be in place.
The concrete deck will be installed Sunday and Monday night.
Once in place, work will begin on the ramps on either side of the span.
In order to accommodate work this weekend, a portion of Harvey from Water to Richter streets will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Detours will be in place.
Further overnight closures will be required over the next six to eight weeks.
The $12.1 million overpass is expected to be completed in December.
