A Noel Gallagher guitar which sold at auction will boost a campaign to save Salford Lads and Girls Club. The autographed Cherry Hofner Verythin was used during his time with Oasis for studio recordings.

It had an estimate of £4,000 to £8,000 but sold for £12,500. Twenty percent - £3,250 - will be donated to the club.

The club posted: "A massive thank you to Propstore (auctioneers) and Kyle from Bittersweet Home for making this possible. Your support means everything to us as we work to keep our doors open for young people in Salford."

Meanwhile an exhibition of Oasis memorabilia and a record fair to be staged at the club on November 23 and 24 is set to raise thousands of pounds. A similar exhibition in June was deemed a massive success by organisers.

On the 24th there will be a Q&A session with Oasis drummer and founding member, Tony McCarroll. It will start at 6pm and will be hosted by journalist John Robb.

Kyle Dale, Director of Bittersweet Home, who is organising the event said: "We had an incredible time at Salford Lads Club back in June with Together We'll Fly selling out across the days there. Knowing we provided the club with their highest ever donation generating weekend was really special to hear.

"So when they asked me to come back and help save the club it was a no brainer. With only two weeks to prepare we love a challenge! Tickets are on sale for the Tony McCarroll Q&A now and I'm working on filling the two days with local talent and more Manchester Royalty.

A weekend of events at Salford Lads Club is expected to help raise thousands of pounds to save it from closure

"There will be an incredible amount of Manchester Music Memorabilia on show too from The Smiths, Oasis, Courteeners and Stone Roses which will be open to the public throughout the days, no ticket needed for this but an encouraged £10 donation on the way in to the room."

Last week a guitar which Noel Gallagher called “the best guitar in the world” sold for an astonishing £226,800.

His custom Silver Sparkle Gibson Les Paul Florentine guitar was put on sale for between £200,000 and £400,000. It was used in the recording of the third Oasis album Be Here Now, released in August 1997.

Auctioneers Propstore said it is one of Gallagher’s primary guitars from the Oasis era and believed to be the one he played most often during that part of his career.
