Why is Liverpool vs Bournemouth not on TV in UK? How fans can watch Premier League match

Liverpool and Bournemouth will meet at Anfield this weekend with both sides looking to bag three points after defeats last time out in the Premier League

Liverpool and Bournemouth will be looking to get their Premier League seasons back on track this afternoon – but fans in the UK will not be able to watch the match live.

The Reds' dream start under new boss Arne Slot came to a sudden halt last weekend as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Nottingham Forest. The shock victory was Forest's first at Anfield for 55 years and the Kop faithful will be worried at how their side struggled to breakdown Nuno Espirito Santo's outfit.

Despite Champions League exploits midweek against AC Milan possibly throwing a bout of fatigue into the mix, Slot and Liverpool will be looking at the fixture against Andoni Iraola's team as a prime opportunity to get back to winning ways. The Reds will be quietly confident too with the last five games between the pair exhibiting an aggregate scoreline of 18-3 in favour of Liverpool, however the bulk of these goals came in a stunning 9-0 win over the Cherries at Anfield back in August 2022.

Bournemouth currently find themselves in 11th in the Premier League table having won one, drew two and lost just once so far. After holding both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle to 1-1 draws, they were then responsible for one of the most thrilling victories so far this season, a 3-2 win over Everton thanks to a very late winner from Luis Sinisterra.

It could be argued that Iraola's side were unlucky to lose last time around. An 86th minute heartbreaker from Christopher Nkunku ensured Chelsea left the Vitality Stadium with a slim 1-0 win, however Cherries' fans would have been buoyed by the resilience of their team and the chances they created.

Those in the UK who wish to see how the two sides fare in the fascinating clash will be disappointed to discover that neither Sky Sports or TNT Sports have selected the fixture for broadcast. Liverpool's face-off with Bournemouth is one of six games kicking off at 3pm this Saturday afternoon, meaning it cannot be shown live due to the Premier League's blackout rule.

The restriction is designed to prevent any game being played between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on a Saturday from being shown on TV. This weekend will see West Ham vs Chelsea live on TNT Sports for the early kick-off, while Crystal Palace vs Manchester United, at 5.30pm on Sky Sports, will round off Saturday's Premier League action on the box.

Come Sunday and the games selected for broadcast on Sky Sports are Brighton vs Nottingham Forest at 2pm and Manchester City vs Arsenal at 4.30pm. However, while Liverpool vs Bournemouth will not be shown live in the UK, it is available via local Premier League TV rights holders in other countries.

The game will be shown live on the USA network and Universo with their coverage beginning at 2.30pm. Fans can also watch Premier League games on American channels Peacock and NBC.

The game will also be broadcast on beIN Sports 1 from 3pm. UK-based fans will be able to watch highlights of the match on Match of the Day on BBC at 10:30pm this evening, while Sky Sports will have highlights just after full time.

The 3pm blackout rule has its fair share of critics, but it will remain in place until at least 2029 after the Premier League agreed a new TV rights package. A Premier League spokesperson told Mirror Football last year the rule is in place to "protect attendances throughout the English football pyramid" and that the English Football League (EFL) would need to be consulted before any scrapping of the controversial rule.
