Ed Sheeran has taken to social media to apologise to Ruben Amorim after he gatecrashed the Manchester United head coach's post-match interview on Sunday.

Sheeran, 33, is a huge Ipswich Town fan and became a minority shareholder in the club in the summer. He was in attendance at Portman Road to watch Sunday's 1-1 draw.

The match was Amorim's first match at the helm since joining United from Sporting Lisbon. He looked less than impressed when Sheeran walked over and interacted with Jamie Redknapp while he was speaking post-match live on Sky Sports.

The incident has sparked anger amongst United fans online, with some branding the popstar "disrespectful".

Sheeran has now explained himself, writing in a post on his Instagram story: "Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn't realise he was actually being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie.

"Obz feel a bit of a ******* but life goes on. Great game though, congrats to all involved x".
