Cole Palmer has revealed that David Beckham once messaged him as he continues to light up the footballing world.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a whirlwind breakthrough season with Chelsea after making the move to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City last summer, scoring 22 goals and bagging 11 assists in 33 games for the Blues. And Palmer's successes have bled into the current campaign too, with seven goals and five assists from 11 games thus far - including a record-breaking first-half four goal display against Brighton in September.

The youngster's achievements were also recognised by former England boss Gareth Southgate, who called Palmer up to his squad for this summer's Euro 2024 campaign in Germany. And while Palmer never saw his name on the starting XI for the Three Lions across the tournament, he made his mark by scoring a left-footed wondergoal in the final against Spain after coming on as a late substitute.

England, of course, ultimately lost the game 2-1 courtesy of goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal, but Palmer was able to enjoy his first major tournament with the team - further showcasing his skills for the world to see. And after basking in a wealth of success since signing for Chelsea, Palmer recently told GQ that he has been flooded with words of support - including one message in particular from Manchester United icon Beckham.

He told the publication: "Beckham messaged me. I scored one day, and I saw him in my DMs." However, when asked if he was the right age to watch the Red Devils legend play, he embarrassingly admitted: "Not really. I was a bit young."

Beckham bounced between Ridgeway Rovers, Spurs, and Brimsdown Rovers before finding his footing at Manchester United in his youth, enjoying an 11-year professional career at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson - picking up six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and Charity Shields a-piece, an Intercontinental Cup and a Champions League.

He made the move to Real Madrid in 2003, enjoying just four years with Los Blancos before a Stateside move to LA Galaxy ensued. During his time with the California club, Beckham enjoyed two loan stints to AC Milan before making a permanent move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, where he hung his boots up.

Becks also racked up 115 caps for England between 1996 and 2009 but failed to capture any major trophy for the Three Lions. Post playing, Beckham co-founded Floridian outfit Inter Miami CF in 2018, with the club kicking off their first season in the MLS two years later.

Palmer is already showing signs of enjoying a similarly successful footballing career, thanks to his hunger for goals and team mentality. And Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca earlier this year claimed that the star was the best player in the Premier League.

Speaking after Chelsea's 4-2 win over Brighton in September, Maresca said of Palmer: "He scored four but he also could have scored two or three more. It’s important he stays hungry, ambitious and I know him from many years ago with the under-23s at City and with the first team.

"What he was as a boy is exactly what he was three or four years ago. Goals, assists, best player of the Premier League – this doesn’t change the way he is. He’s a humble guy and for me it’s the most important thing. He’s a top player and today in football young players can change quick.

"Cole scores goals and never changes and this is the most important thing. He’s special player, he’s a simple and humble guy. He doesn’t need to tell people how good he is because you can see it clearly."
